NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS. ANOTHER DOUBLE TO BRIDSON. By Telegraph—Press Association WANGANUI, March 5. The New Zealand championship swimming meeting was advanced a further stage this evening, when 1500 spectators watched the races at Gonville Baths. The weather was ideal. The outstanding performance of the evening was that of the Aucklander, Miss M. Farquhar, who won the 100 yards backstroke, defeating the titleholder, Miss N, Stratton (Auckland), by a close margin. Results: —• 220 YARDS MEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP. —G. Bridson (Auckland) 1, A. T. Stokes (Canterbury) 2, J. Enright (Auckland) 3. Also started— Blakely (Wellington), A. Raper (Auckland). Won by five yards, one yard between second and third. Time —2min 31 2-5 TOO YARDS LADIES’ BACKSTROKE CHAMPIONSHIP.—Miss M. Farquhar' (Auckland) 1, Miss M. Stratton (Auckland) 2. The only starters. Won by four yards. Time—lmin 23 4-ssecs. 220 YARDS BREASTSTROKE CHAMPIONSHIP.—L. Smith (Wanganui) 1, S. Spry (Wellington) 2, B. Haworth (Wanganui) 3. Also started —T. Lowe (Auckland). Won by lo yards, 10 yards between second and third. Time—3min 7 4-ssecs. 440 YARDS LADIES’ CHAMPIONSHIP. —Miss C. Champion (Auckland) 1 Miss D. Anderson (Wanganui) 2, Miss S. Bracefield (South Canterbury) 3. The only starters. Won by a lap, 20 yards between second and third. Time—6min 27 4-ssecs. 880 YARDS MEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP. —G. Bridson (Auckland) 1, A. Stokes (Canterbury) 2, H. Gowan (Wanganui) 3. Also started—D. Reid (South Canterbury). Won by 30 s’ards, 30 yards between second and third. Time—ll min 52 l-ssecs. WATER POLO. —Canterbury and Wellington drew one goal all. Auckland 2 beat Taranaki 0. KELLERMAN CUP. Private advice has been received that Don Reid (winner of the Speedily Mile), has seven minutes’ start in the Annett Kellerman Cup race, to be swum over a three mile course in the Wanganui River to-day. The limit man has 181 minutes, and G. Bridson (N.Z. champion), is scratch.
