PLIGHT OF DIAMOND INDUSTRY.
MANY MINES CLOSING DOWN. United Press Association—By Electrlo Tel egraph—Copyright (Received March 1, 5.5 pjn.) CAPETOWN, February 27. Owing to the parlous state of the diamond market, all South African diamond mines, except De Beer’s, contemplate drastic retrenchment. The directors of the Premier Mine at Pretoria, have deferred a proposal to close down. The mine will probably work half time.
