An inquest was held at the Courthouse, Waimate, yesterday morning before the District Coroner (Mr G. Dash, J.P.), touching the death of an elderly man named Robert John Ross, a rabbiter, who was found dead at Mt. Parker Station, Hakataramea, on Wednesday morning. William Henry Ross, brother of deceased, stated that deceased was a single man, 61 years of age. Witness stated that for some years his brother had been treated for heart trouble. For some time during 1928 deceased had been an Inmate of the Waimate Public Hospital, and had left that institution to go to the Old Man’s Home at Timaru. Deceased left the home about 12 months ago and came to witness's camp at Mt. Parker. After taking a separate camp for about 10 months, during which time he periodically called on witness for supplies, deceased came to witness on February 15th and complained of feeling ill. He said that his heart was not too good. Deceased appeared to improve after taking medicine, and witness left him to go round traps on Wednesday morning but on return he found his brother lying dead. Witness remained with the body, and sent his son for the police. Francis Alexander Ross, son of the previous witness, corroborated his fathers' evidence. Dr T. W. Wylie, Waimate, gave evidence of having attended deceased at the Waimate Hospital for two months during 1929. He was then suffering senile degeneration of the heart, and from intestinal troubles. After treatment the patient Improved, and was discharged from hospital. Witness examined the body of deceased at the Waimate mortuary, and found no marks of violence. In witness’s opinion death was probably due to heart failure. The Coroner returned a verdict; "That the deceased, Robert John Ross, died at his brother’s camp at Mt. Parker Station, on February 18, from senile degeneration of the heart." CHANGE OF PREMISES.
