At a meeting of the General Labourer’s Union (Timaru branch), the following resolutions were carried unanimously:—(l) “That this meeting vigorously protests against the Government’s attack on the present unsatisfactory wages of the worker, and the general labourer in particular, whose average wage in New Zealand Is estimated at a paltry £lO5 per annum. We also protest against the proposed repudiation by the Government of existing Arbitration and Conciliation Court awards, and consider their action not only cowardly, because of their attack on the weakest member of the community economically, but inhuman, because of the dire effects on the homes and families. A copy to be forwarded to the member of Parliament, the local Press and the ■New Zealand Worker.’” (2) "That a letter of thanks be sent to the Rev. Clyde Carr. M.P., for the constituency, congratulating him on his address to the Chamber of Commerce and other organisations, also the letters written to the Press on behalf of the workers. ’
