FASHIONABLE WEDDING.
DE CASTRO-COSSINS. A wedding which created much interest took place yesterday afternoon in St. Marys Church, when Janet, second daughter of Mrs G. H. Cossins and of the late G. H. Cossins, of “Ardnaquere,” Wai-iti Road. was married to Keith, only son of Mr and Mrs W. W. de Castro, of Blenheim. The marriage was solemnised by the Rev. J. A. Wilson, of Waihao Downs. The church, which had been decorated by friends of the bride, looked beautiful with masses of flowers in pastel shades, and greenery, which formed an effective background for the diaphanous frocks of the bride and her maids. Tall koradi sticks, hollyhocks, hydrangeas, gladioli and -sweet peas all in the delicate shades of pink, blue and mauve, were massed along the choir stalls, while delicate sprays of clematis were draped along the altar rails. On the altar, tall white lilies in vases were effectively arranged. The pretty bride, w r ho was given away by her cousin, Mr G. R. Ritchie, oi' Dunedin, made a charming picture as she entered the church in draperies of parchment tinted chiffon. The frock was cut on straight lines, and was finished with stitched bands of chiffon, and a small cluster of orange blossom buds were caught on one shoulder. The long tight sleeves were fastened by a row of small white buttons, and finished with a bow of chiffon at the elbow. The skirt, which fell almost to the ground, was made with long fluted godels, which gave a billowy effect to the frock. A train of parchment tinted chiffon hung from the shoulders in long loose folds, and was caught in the centre with a narrow blue and silver ribbon, which was stitched on to the train in the shape of a true lovers’ knot. A halo effect of orange blossom and tiny sprigs of white heather was worn well back on her head, and formed a be-
coming frame for the face. From the oack hung the long veil of tinted silk net, which fell in graceful folds over the frock and train. Her sheaf of cream-tinted gladioli and moonstone •endant set in diamonds were a perfect finish to a very attractive picture. Mr L. E. Wilson, Dunedin, was best man, and Messrs J. Edmond (Dunedin), G. Hunter-Weston (Mt. John), L. Chapman, D. Unwin and P. Gresson acted as groomsmen. The ushers’ duties were carried out by Messrs G. Chapman, J. Acland and F. Edmond (Dunedin). Mr A. W. Vine was the organist. The bridal retinue included Misses Betty and Nan Cossins (sisters of the bride), Joan Ritchie (cousin of the bride), Margery Gibson, Peggy Unwin and Evelyn Pinckney (Southland), who followed the bride in pretty frocks of lettuce green chiffon. Thenfrocks were all made alike, with closefitting bodices with fluted wing effects, falling from the shoulders at the back to form a V, and finished with narrow stitched belts caught with a small brilliant buckle. The long tight sleeves were made with a flare falling from elbow to wrist. Two deep flounces of fluted flares formed the skirt, the top one being arranged to form a hip yoke. Small caps of lettuce green lace made with an upstanding brim, were worn on the back of the head. They also wore shaded green chokers (the gift of the bridegroom), and carried artistic Victorian posies in pastel shades. The Reception. After the ceremony a small reception was held at “Ardnaquere,” Wai-iti Road, the bride’s home, where the house and marquee were gay with flowers. Toi-toi and greenery decorated ,he marquee, and flowers in pastel ;hades graced the afternoon tea tables. A long awning which led to the marquee was banked on either side with masses of flowers. Mrs Cossins received her guests wearing a becoming frock of midnight blue lace, made with a cross-over bodice caught at one side with a spray of brilliants. The skirt fell in graceful folds to the ground. With this was worn a lace coatee with .long tight sleeves, and a lido blue straw
hat with wide brim lined with ivory georgette. She carried a lovely bouquet of scarlet roses and carnations. Mrs dc Castro, Blenheim (mother of the bridegroom), wore a smart frock of black satin marocain with insertions, and sleeves of lace. The long skirt drooped at one side, and a small closefitting hat was finished with a white osprey. Her bouquet was of rose pink carnations and sweet peas. Mrs G. R Ritchie.
