The Earl of Bessborough has been appointed Governor-General of Canada, the Premier, the Rt. Hon. R. B. Bennett announced to-day. THE KING’S APPROVAL. EXPERIENCED BUSINESSMAN APPOINTED. United Press Association—By Electrlo Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, February 9. The King has approved of the appointment of Earl Bessborough as Governor-General of Canada. Lord Bessborough has a wide business experience. He was called to the bar 27 years ago, before succeeding his father, the eighth Earl. He sat in the House of Commons as Unionist member for Cheltenham, and afterwards for Dover. During the war he served at Gallipoli and In France. He married a French woman, the daughter of Baron de Neuflize, and he and his family have organised one of the leading amateur dramatic societies in England. Since war he developed many business interests. [Vere Brabazon Ponsonby, C.M.G., ninth Earl of Bessborough, was bom on October 27, 1880. He was educated at Harrow and Trinity College, Cambridge, where he graduated B.A. He was called to the Bar in 1903. He
entered Parliament as a Conservative in 1910, representing Cheltenham. From 1913 to 1920 he held the Dover seat. He was also a member of the London County Council, representing Marylebone East from 1907 to 1910. The Earl served on Gallipoli and later with the staff in France, where he gained the order of a Chevalier of the Legion of Honour. In 1912, he married Roberte de Neuflize, daughter of Baron de Neuflize. He has two sons and one daughter.]
