RACING AT RANDWICK. BOOKIES ON STRIKE. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received January 1, 9.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, January 1. The New Year’s Day meeting at Tattersall’s Club races was held at Randwick to-day. The attendance was officially at 25.000, compared with 40,000 at the meeting last year. Over fifty bookmakers’ stands were unoccupied. A plain olothes constable seized a telegram at the racecourse telegraph office, alleging the sender was communicating a starting price to a bookmaker in the city, thereby endeavouring to defeat the winning bets tax.
