Complaining to his wife that his week’s wage of 32/- was too small, Ernst Gehrmann put on his best clothes and returned to the steelworks at Cologne, where he was employed. He lighted a cigar and stood near a mixing crucible full of molten metals. As the cover of the crucible was lifted, Gehrmann, still smoking, suddenly mounted the staging and jumped into the glowing mass. He was immediatedly incinerated.
