FROM MY HOUSEKEEPING DIARY
GRAZED COTTONS Glazed cotton is the newest material for bed quilts, and it looks dainty and picturesque in plain or patterns effects. The quilts are filled with wadding and slightly quilted, and as the surfact is shiny it does not hold the dust. Frequent shaking will keep it clean, which makes it particularly practical for winter use. Washing Woollens. To get the maximum amount of service out of woollen underwear it must be carefully washed. Never rub a woollen garment with a cake of soap. Dissolve soap flakes in hot water and add sufficient cold water to make a lukewarm lather before the woollies are immersed. Then gently swill and crush them with the hands. To be properly cleansed they often need two changes of soapy water and they should be rinsed in two changes of water as well. Always lay woollens flat ,to dry after you have squeezed, not wrung them dry. They should be placed in a current of air, but not near a fire.
