Owing to frequent interruptions by rain, only twenty-eight minutes’ play was possible on the final day of the cricket match at Hobart, between the West Indies and Tasmania, the match being abandoned at five o’clock. The West Indies, continuing their first innings, made 242 for the loss of two wickets. Birkett batted 210 minutes for 128, in the making of which, he hit nine fours. Martin made 79 in 146 minutes, and he also hit nine fours. The pair put on 173 and were still batting when play ceased. James took one wicket for 62.
