EXCITEMENT IN TEA ROOMS.

SODA FOUNTAIN CYLINDER EXPLODES. By Telegraph—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, December 26. A metal cylinder containing carbon dioxide gas, exploded with terrific force, in the tea rooms at New Brighton this evening. The gas was used to supply the soda fountain. The explosion wrecked a portion of the shop, damaged the contents and injured one assistant, though not severely, and severely shocked others. The injured man (Mr Wharnes) was struck above the right knee by a fragment of the cylinder, and badly bruised. He was admitted to hospital. The cylinder was shattered, and the fragments flew everywhere. The damage to the shop is estimated at £IOO.
