SERIOUS EFFECT IN INVESTMENTS. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received December 26, 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, December 26. The attendance at Randwick races was larger to-day, but the bookmakers are pessimistic about the effects of the betting tax. Even more liberal odds failed to attract bettors! A prominent bookmaker expressed the opinion that the tax would fizzle out, as its proceeds would be so far below w r hat was anticipated. The totalisator also seemed to find fewer patrons.
