SOVIET DECLINES TO PAY.
Bailiff Attempts Execution. ECHO OF COURTS VERDICT. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright Received December 25, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, December 25. A bailiff armed with a distress warrant, visited the fine building occupied by the Soviet Commercial Mission anu attempted to take possession of the premises and furniture. He acted on behalf of M. Hertzfleld, a London exporter, who filed a successful suit in London against the Soviet Government obtaining an order for £16,000 lor breach of contract. The Soviet refused to pay thereupon, Hertzfleld went to Paris where the Court’s confirmed the London judgment. The Soviet again refused to pay. alleging that they were not obliged to fulfil a contract concluded with a private company, before it passed unde- their control. They refused the bailiff admission, claiming diplomatic privilege. The .Courts are considering whether M. Hertzfleld is legally entitled to seize the building.
