CONTROL OF CYCLING

POSITION MISREPRESENTED. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, December 24. In a statement issued to-day, Mr R. W. McVilly, president of the N.Z.A.A.A., deals with certain statements regarding the position of the control of cycling in the Dominion dealing with that issued lately by officials of the New Zealand Union of Cyclists. Mr McVilly declares that the whole position of control in New Zealand has been misrepresented to cycling authorities overseas, and points out that cable advice has been received this week that a temporary affiliation granted to New Zealand Union cyclists by the Union of Cyclists Internationale, is to be reviewed, and the whole matter re-opened. Briefly, he states, the position of the sport in New Zealand is that the N.Z.A.A.A. controls 90 per cent, of active amateur cyclists; that the New Zealand Association will continue Its activities In the amateur field, and riders under Its control will have full protection of organisation, and that the question as to who will have formal control of the sport is being Investigated by the National Union of Cyclists in England, which body will report to the Cyclists’ Internationale. The N.Z.A.A.A. has every confidence as to the outcome of this investigation.
