MONTHLY MEETING. The montlly meeting of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union was held in tie Sailors’ Rest on Tuesday afternoor, when there was a very large attendance of members and friends. A motion of sympathy with Mrs Sutherland snd Mrs Arthur in the loss of their mo-her, Mrs Bone, was passed. Mrs Nelson and Mrs Stark were appointed delegates to the District Convention to be held in Christchurch in September. Mr Wooeward reported that quite a number of overseas ships had called at Timaru during the month. Three had dark trews, and one had dark firemen. There were 50 visitors for the month, nuking about 150 visits. After tie business was competed the meeting took the form of a musical afternoon. Vocal solos were rendered by Mescames Mclnnes and Robjohn and Misses J. McKay, Meehan, Crombie, Flo#d and Aeton. Several pianoforte sobs were played by Miss Rudge, who als> acted as accompaniste. Mrs J. R. King gave an elocutionary item. A hear-y vote of thanks to the performer:, moved by Mrs Low and seconded by Mrs Norrie, was carried by acclair&fcion.
