Mrs E. G. Tonks, Ashburton, is spending a holiday at the Grand. Mrs N. K. Cox, Timaru, is staying at the Grand for about ten days. Mr Miller, Beverley House, has returned after a visit to Dunedin. Miss Neroli Smithson, Christchurch, is the guest of Mrs D. Burnett, Hakataramea. Miss Norah Lysaght, Geraldine, who is on a visit to Christchurch, is expected home to-day. Miss Erica Bridges, Wellington, arrived yesterday to stay with Mrs G. A. Bridges, Selwyn Street. Mr and Mrs Wilfred Scott, Pleasant Point left on Monday on a visit to Sydney. Miss Jean Griffiths (Kitchener Square) has returned from a visit to Christchurch. Mrs H. Hay, Cadogan, Sefton Street, will leave to-day to stay with Mrs Bruce Murray, Godley Peaks. Mrs R. B. Banner man and Miss K. H. Blackie, left the Grand for the Hermitage yesterday. Miss A. Hughes, Christchurch, arrived at the Grand on Thursday for a few days in Timaru. Dr and Mrs G. Home, who have been staying at the Grand returned to New Plymouth yesterday. Mr F. Westaway, Sydney, and Mr K. J. Fulton, Dunedin, arrived at the Grand Hotel from Dunedin, en route for the Hermitage. Commander and Mrs Dennistoun and family, Geraldine, are to arrive back in New Zealand early in October, after a lengthy visit to England. Miss Betty McFarlane and Miss Maling, Christchurch, arrived in Timaru yesterday to spend a few days with Miss Jean Griffiths, Kitchener Square. Mrs George Rhodes, Beverley, Christchurch, who is spending the week-end with Mrs R. H. Rhodes, "Came,” Sealy Street, will return home on Monday. Miss B. E. Baughan, Organising Secretary for “The Howard League for Penal Reform, will be visiting Timaru next week. She will be the guest of Mrs Woodward, Sailor’s Rest. Miss Betty Sproule, Napier, who is staying with Mrs Alister Mackenzie, | Clayton Station, will leave early next ; week to stay with Miss Halmai Loughnan, Christchurch. Mrs C. E. Kerr, Misses Betty and Margaret Kerr (“Athlone,” Kingsdown), Miss Mara will Burnett (Haka- j taramea), and Miss Neroli Smithson (Christchurch), will leave to-day to spend a week at the Hermitage. To augment the funds of the Temuka Golf Club, Mrs Andrew Guild and Mrs Malcolm Guild gave a most enjoyable party at the Temuka links on Thursday. Competitions were played during the afternoon and afternoon tea served at tables decorated with pink and white Christmas roses and bowls of primulas and polyanthus was much enjoyed. The special one club competition for women was won by Miss Johnston, the consolation by Miss Eggleton. The one club competition was won by Mr D. Fergusson and the consolation by Mr Foxon. The prize-winning non-golfers were Miss Brown, and Mrs R. Comer. A pewtermug with the words “Dinna Forget” inscribed on it was used to hold the contributions and the hostesses were most gratified with the response mads by those present. Those present included members of the Club, and Mrs and Miss Guild, Mrs C. L. Fraser, Mrs R. Comer, Mrs F. Comer, Mrs Routledge, Mrs Twentyman, Mrs Marshall, Mrs Hayhurst, Mrs Tully, Miss Brown, Miss Taylor and Miss R. Twomey.
