WASHING DAY HINTS.

Laundry blue water should be tested before use. Hold a little of the blue water in the palm of the hand. If of correct strength it should appear skyblue.

Large articles should be opened out and put it singly, dipping once or twice as may be necessary. Small articles may be put in a few at a time. Open-textured fabrics, like muslin, soak up blue rapidly; they should be dealt with by washing again, with vigorous rubbing of yellow soap on the blue stains. Soiled lace can be made to look like new by squeezing it first in warm soapy water, then in clean cold water, and afterwards in milk to stiffen and make it white. Press on the wrong side while damp with a fairly hot iron. Jumpers washed at home are liable to stretch. The following method will put matters right: Wash in warm water with shredded soap. Rinse thoroughly and place on a towel to dry, laying out neatly so that no part will drag-. This method of drying will restore the shape of the jumper.
