FOR THE HOME DECORATOR.
Those who are thinking of doing a little pointing and decorating for themselves should know the following facts, which will help them in their task. Before using a new paint brush clean it thoroughly; it is remarkable how much dust these brushes can hold; and this gets into the paint. When choosing wallpaper, always get at least one piece more than is required, especially if the pattern is a large one, as there will be a lot of waste in the matching. Any paper that is left will do for repairs later on. It is is necessary to put a patch on wallpaper, never cut it; always tear the sides irregularly, so that they will mlend in with the surrounding paper. Never start to paper from the corner of the room, for fear it may not be true. Instead drop a plumb line from the middle of the room, and paper from that.
If distempering have the old distemper well washed off first, and allow the wall to dry thoroughly before any new is applied. If this is not done the new distemper will flake in a very short time, and there is no cure for the trouble. The whole room must be done again to be satisfactory.
