FASHION HINTS FROM PARIS.
Real hats are coming in once more. Not just headcoverings, but important in themselves and decked with crystal pins, tassels and ostrick pompoms. The new modes are for the slender woman still, and beauty doctors and gymnasiums are likely to add to their clientele. The clinging line, however, needs pretty curves, although hips are very slim—a silhouette which is delightfully balanced and completed by shoulder capes or capelets and little boleros. The Spanish exhibition! It has given us brilliant frocks, and chenille net, and Moorish jewellery, and draped mantles. Persistent this year is the long evening glove, which suits so well the present mode a la grande dame. This is a season of frills and flounces. They are everywhere, but they are treated with a good deal of individuality. The return of the tiny sleeve, which softens so charmingly the line between a bare shoulder and elbow, is announced, also the elbow sleeve and the three-quarter length sleeve. The afternoon and evening dresses are very graceful, with floating panels and scarves and cape collars at the back. Loops of material about two inches wide sometimes fall to the bottom of the skirt from incrustations on the bodice.
Complaint is made that the stained glass windows of York Minister are affected by smoke fumes from Leeds, 20 miles distant.
