UNITED STATES DROUGHT.

Big Grain Shortage.

CONDITIONS MUST BE MET. I United Press Association—By Electrlo Telegraph.—Copyright (Received August 22, 5.5 p.m.) WASHINGTON, August 21. Mr Legge (Farm Board) commenting on reports that there was an overall grain shortage of 400,000,000 bushels this year, advised stock men to meet the condition immediately by feeding stock with “a mixed ration, including rye, barley, oats and wheat,” in order to avoid any foolish and unnecessary price rises later in the year. Mr Legge. said: “We want to get livestock feeders to adjust themselves quickly to conditions they have not had to face for twenty-nine years.” Mr Legge spoke contemptuously of a statement by a “Wall Street farm expert,” who objected to feeding wheat to swine, because that produce would produce less lard, wliich, according to Mr Legge, would be welcome to packers.
