WAIMATE.

SCHOOL FOOTBALL. A match between the Waimate High School team and the third fifteen from the Timaru High, played at Waimate yesterday, resulted in a win for the visitors by 10 points to 0. Rev. W. B. Scott was referee. REPRESENTATIVE TEAM. The following player! will represent Waimate v. Waitaki, at Duntroon, on Saturday:— Patterson Dobbs Milson Bayne Moffatt C. Neill Johnson Thyne. Baxter Pearce Willetts Miller N. Grylls Cadwallader K. Grylls Emergencies—Backs, J. McNeill, Boyd. Forwards, Smith, Dickson. SAVAGE CLUB. The fortnightly meeting of the Waimate Savage Club was held in the whare on Tuesday night. Ex-Great Chief Hoskins was responsible for the programme, which was thoroughly enjoyed by the Braves present. Before handing over to Ex-Chief Hoskins, Great Chief E. Travers referred to the great loss that the hapu was to sustain by the departure of Brave Manchester, who was leaving Waimate for a position in the south. He referred to the great interest that Brave Manchester had always taken in the Club, and to the invaluable service he had rendered as conductor of the orchestra. He wished him, on behalf of the Club, every success in the future. At the conclusion of the Chief s remarks, Mr Manchester was enthusiastically greeted with the Club’s welcome. Mr Manchester suitably replied. BASKETBALL. The following alterations have been made in the Waimate Basketball Association’s draw for to-day:— In the A. grade, Konini will play Willowbridge on No. 2 ground at 3 p.m. (referee, Miss Watson); and Waimate No. 1 will play High School No. 1 on No. 2 ground at 4 p.m. (referee, Miss Watson). In the C. grade, High School No. 2 will play Convent on No. 3 ground at 4 p.m. (Miss Dunn). RIFLE SHOOTING. At the Waimate Miniature Rifle Club’s weekly shoot, the following were the highest scores off the rifle: — G. Bird 79, E. Segar 79, T. Koppert 79, A. Kernick 79, W. Paterson 78, G. Jones 77, W. Purvis 76, R. Cameron 76, R. B. Turnbull 76, W. D. Moss 75, W. Nelson 73, E. Warren 73, S. Fleming 72, W. Tooley 72, F. Wilce 69. The Paterson weekly button was won by T. Koppert. GOLF. A mixed foursome bogey round is to be played to-day. The annual competition for the Hume Cup will be played in conjunction with the fourth medal round on 18th. September. Only those members who were on the 30 handicap mark at the commencement of the season are eligible to compete. The following are further results in the competitions to date: — Senior championship.—E. W. Travers beat A. Sawell, T. A. Wilson beat D. Borrie, D. S. Chisholm beat C. G. Holmes. Junior championship.—B. O'Hara beat H. C. Foster, and P. Kidd beat L. V. Brenton. Knock-out competition.—G. Aitken beat J. C. O’Hara, D. Borrie beat H. C. Foster, and D. S. Chisholm beat A. Sawell. Mixed foursome knock-out competition.—Mrs Fraser and B. O’Hara beat beat Mr and Mrs Borrie; Mrs Shaw and P. Kidd beat Mrs Fraser and B. O’Hara; Mr and Mrs Chisholm beat Mr and Mrs Brenton; Mrs Shackleton and A. T. J. Shaw beat Mrs D. Foster and J. C. Templer; Mrs Shackleton and A. T. J. Shaw beat Mr and Mrs Chisholm; Miss Judge and R. Deacon beat Miss Akhurst and T. A. Wilson. The Committee has decided that the third round of the two knock-out competitions must be completed not later than Ist. September, and the semi-finals not later than 15th. September. The second round of the junior championship is to be completed by Ist. September, and the semifinal by 15th. September. Ah acres Freehold near Timaru.
