SUGGESTED LOTTERIES.

To the Editor of the “ Tirnaru Herald.” Sir, —I am not one of those who object to lotteries provided that the money is to be spent in a useful way in our own country, for a permanent advantage or tp provide useful labour for those who need it; but I am strongly against a large first prize, and four smaller prizes. For instance, I consider £IOOO quite a sufficient first prize for 2/6. We are hearing quite a deal about New Zealanders spending more than they can spare on motfn* cars, the building of which is more or less a New Zealand industry. There are many kinds of extravagances less useful than motor cars.—l am, etc. ONE OF THE PUBLIC.
