The doctors say coughs and colds are extraordinarily prevalent in New Zealand this winter, and unfortunately colds are very catching! A great safeguard is to keep your pipe going. Tobacco is a famous preventive of infection. But if you are to keep your pipe pretty constantly going, it follows that you must use a tobacco that can be smoked freely without satiety or injury to your health. The imported tobaccos won’t fill the bill. You can’t keep on smoking them for any length of time. Too full of nicotine for that! After you have had say a couple of pipes you’ve had enough for a while. It’s different with the toasted New Zealand tobaccos. They are so pure you can smoke them for hours at a time. There’s hardly any nicotine ::: them. That’s because they are toasted: The toasting makes all the difference. And for flavour and fragrance they challenge comparison with all other tobaccos. There are only four brands manufactured: Riverhead Gold, Cavendish, Cut Plug No. 10, and Navy Cut No. 3.
