GERALDINE.
TEST MATCH BROADCAST. Outdoor activities were forgotten to a very large degree on Saturday and wireless sets were the chief attraction, some hundreds of people listening in to the fourth Test.. The description came over the air well. The weather throughout the day v;as fine.' but it was overcast in the morning and late afternoon. SATURDAYS FOOTBALL. In a hard fast game at Temuka on Saturday, the Geraldine third graders were beaten by Pareora by B—o.8 —0. The fourth grade team, playing on the Oval, put up a very fair display against a heavier Temuka team, but went down 25 —13. The Temuka team were a player short throughout the game, and in the second half, Geraldine lost two players through minor injuries. At half time the score was Temuka 15, Geraldine 10, but in the concluding stages of the game the Geialdine defence broke down. There were three potted goals in the game. For the home side Vile scored, Metcalf potted a goal, and C. Ashby was successful with two penalty kicks. Horgan (Temuka) made nineteen of Temuka’s points. A LIGHT RAIN. A light rain commenced to fall in Geraldine about mid-day on Sunday, and continued almost throughout the afternoon and evening, 38 points being recorded for the twenty-four hours ended at 9 a.m. yesterday. Rain continued yesterday, but conditions were quite warm. PERSONAL ITEMS. Miss Joan Hargreaves, Kakahu, is at present visiting Christchurch. Mr T. Thomas, who for a number of years was on the staff of the Union Bank at Geraldine, is at present j spending a holiday in the district. Mrs Jack Scott, and Mrs Morris Williams, are in Christchurch for National Week. Mr and Mrs J. Mowbray Tripp, “Silverton,” Geraldine, left yesterday for Christchurch. Mr and Mrs John Barker, Four Peaks, are spending National Week in Christchurch. GENERAL NEWS. Mr J. S. R. Reeve, of the British football team, passed through Geraldine on Sunday, en route to Dunedin. The monthly meeting of the Geraldine Borough Council will be held this evening. A community dance will be held in the Town Hall to-night.
