HOCKEY.
INTER-ISLAND MATCH. By Telegraph—Press CHRISTCHURCH, August 6. At a meeting of the New Zealand Hockey Association to-night, a letter was received from the Auckland Association regretting their inability to secure a team to fulfil the shield match engagement with Canterbury, and foregoing the match. The selectors for the inter-island match submitted the following teams, which were approved:— South Island. —H. Snooks, E. Dash (Canterbury), C. Gibbs (Nelson), V. Wells, B. Rogers (Canterbury), C. Jones (Buller), M. Bay (Otago), F. Fullwood, G. Burke (Canterbury), H. Whitwell, C. Mayston (Nelson). Emergencies.—Underhill, R. Best, R. D. Irwin, O’Callaghan. North Island.—-N. Hughes (Wangariui), T. Ewan (Waikato), P. Spiers (Wellington), B. Massey (Wairarapa), A. Mahoney (captain), J. Jobbin (Wellington), B. Spiers (Waikato), G. Packer (Fielding), N. Robinson (Dannevirke), S. Betts (Taranaki). Emergencies.—T. Clarke (Auckland), W. Bannin (Wairarapa). SATURDAY’S FIXTURES. The following are the fixtures for Saturday:— Cambridge B v. Trinity, 1.45; referees, Messrs W. Hawkey and G. Gow. South End v. Cambridge A, 3 p.m.; referees, Messrs L. Dockrill and L. Davies. Trial Game.
