OBITUARY.
JOHN PROUSE, BARITONE. By Telegraph—Press -Association. WELLINGTON, August 4. The death occurred to-day of Mr John Prouse, a notable figure in music circles in New Zealand, at the age of 75. Mr Prouse was a distinguished baritone singer, and had toured with famous artists, including Kubelik, Melba, Backhaus and Dolores. His greatest achievements were in oratorio, and he had sung in the Albert Hall and Queen’s Hall, London. For thirty-five years he was associated with St. Paul’s pro-Cathedral Choir. He was born at Wainuiomata, where his father settled in 1841, and was a successful businessman in the timber trade. He leaves a widow, three sons and two daughters— William Prouse, architect; Oliver Prouse, solicitor, Wellington; and George Prouse, Milan, Italy. LADY HECTOR. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, August 4. The death is announced of Lady Maria Georgiana Hector, relict of Sir James Hector, in her 82nd. year. GEORGE WINDER. By Telegraph—Prese Association WELLINGTON, August 4.
