ATHLETICS.

METHODIST AND BAPTIST HARRIERS. Intensely cold weather greeted the Harriers on Saturday, when two Clubs held a run from Waimataitai Hall as the guests of the Waimataitai Girls Club. Twenty runners, comprising . two packs, took part in the run, which led down Luxmoore Road and Page’s Road, through grass and ploughed paddocks to the Main Road on Washdyke flat, via the edge of the Lagoon to Smithfield Freezing Works, and home down Waimataitai Street, a distance of five miles. Owing to the Combined team practice and illness, several members were absent from both Clubs, but an ideal run was enjoyed by all. The results were as follows: — Fast Pack.—R. Holmes (Baptist) 1; • N. Keeley (Baptist) 2; W. Beswarick (Methodist) 3. Slow Pack.—D. Mclnnes (Baptist) 1; S. Hurdley (Methodist) 2; H. Brown (Baptist) 3. t i The runners were then entertained to afternoon tea by the Girls’ Club, after which R. Nelson (Club captain) , on behalf of the Methodist Club, wel- i corned the Baptist Club, and thanked I the girls for their hospitality. Mr Mclnnes (Baptist) replied, thanking the Methodist Club for their welcome, and on behalf of his Club, he thanked the Girls’ Club for the way in which i they had helped to make the run a ' success. He congratulated the Meth- I odist Club on their win in the Orr- I Walker Cup event, and called for three j cheers for the Methodist Club. On behalf of the Girls’ Club, Miss j Ivy Harris replied. Next Saturday the Methodist Club j will run as the guests of Mr and Mrs i L. Shortus, from their residence, cor- I ner Wai-iti and Rathmore Streets. COMBINED RUN AT TOTARA. The Presbyterian and Timaru Harrier Clubs held a comoined run Loin the residence of Mrs Seaton, Totara Valley, as the guests of the Totara Vailey Bible Class girls. The trail, laid by T. O’Leary and G. Seaton, was of a similar nature to that over which the Canterbury Championships are decided. It included ploughed paddocks, several creeks, and plenty of hills. In the run home R. Lund, H. Ward, and H. Cullimore were first in the fast pack, with W. Cormack, A. Irwin, and R. G. Maxwell, leading the slow pack. Afternoon tea was provided by the Bible Class girls, H. Killoh (Presbyterian), and T. B. Lane (Timaru), returning thanks for the afternoon tea i provided. Alter the tea the runners adjourned to Mr Giles’s granary, where a delight- -- ful evening was spent. Mr Harper thanked the ladies for the evening, Mr Seaton and Mrs White responding.
