SCOUTS

The attendance at Chalmers on Monday last was somewhat weakened by the Arctic conditions prevailing, but, notwithstanding this, the final details for the field day to be held this afternoon were attended to.

Chalmers Troop field day is being run on the Patrol system. That is each Patrol Leader in charge of his own boys, leaves a different starting place in town and, after traversing some very good tracking country in which, at intervals, are various little tests to try, not only his, but also Patrols, Scoutcraft, leads them home once again where a hot cup of cocoa will await them.

St. Mary’s monthly church parade takes place to-morrow. Also all Anglican Scoutmaster’s are requested to attend 8 o’clock communion in uniform.

All thosb who are acquainted with him will be pleased to hear that Bill Tizard has been promoted to Assistant Scout Master at St. Mary’s Troop. Bill has been a member of St. Mary’s for upwards of five years during which time he has amassed quite a formidable array of distinctions. In addition to the cook’s, ambulance, cyclist’s and pathfinder’s badges of hia King’s Scout tests he has the following to his credit:—fireman’s, rescuer's gardener’s, handyman’s, basketworker’s, swimmer’s, missioner’s, as well as having gained Mr Smith’s special gold medal, for ambulance work, in the late competitions. He is also in possession of his First Grade all round cords. The warrant was presented by the District Commissioner, Mr A. L. Gee, in the course of the Tenderfoot initiation ceremony two weeks ago.

The Superintendent of the St. Johd Ambulance reports a record attendance of Highfield at the Classes held by him for first aid and bandage work. This speaks well for the Troop, and Scouter.

A miniature Gillwell trail is to be held this afternoon by the Chalmers Troop, with a few of the Northdown Patrols competing. It must be remembered by all Patrols that all Scouts are responsible to their Patrol Leader and no questions must be asked any Scouter or Scout of another Patrol. Points will be awarded for the manner in which Fatrols overcome each problem. —The essence of this trail is tha responsibility and alertness of thg Patrol Leader.
