FAMILY’S 400 YEARS RECORD.
Before the Spanish Armada, the Gunpowder Plot, or the Fire of London. and in the days of Queen Elizabeth, Mary Queen of scots, and Shakespeare. the Denyers plied their trade in a little saddlery shop in High street, Staines, England. Since the year 1557 the family tradition has remained unbroken. From father to son they have carried on in the same little shop, despite the passing of horse-loving kings and nobles ! and the advent of swifter forms of j travel. Carriages and pairs no longer ! sweep up to the door of the old building. Trade is not what it used to be, 1 and, saddest of all, they grey-haired 1 man at work, in the old harness-room is the last of the Denyers. Edmund John Denyer, named after ! his ancestors has no son to follow his footsteps. When he is gone the historic record will be broken. While he lives, however, this quiet, grave little saddler is determined to carry on, despite all the motor-cars, aeroplanes, trains, and motor-cycles in the world.
