ENGLAND’S FIRST INQUEST.
At an inquest h ud recently at Great Barford. in I ;, orchhire, the coroner said thai the first ir.que.t ever recorded in England was held in that parish. A boy tumbled into a well about 830 years ago in Great Barford. and an inquest was held on his body. That was the first inquest recorded. Nobody knows when the first inquest was held in England, but most i.. .i historians believe the custom was brought by the Normans, and was known in France wlv.a 0.i... - magne reigned, or earlier still. An inquest was simply an inquiry mu u. - an officer who summoned a body of local men to give answer on oath. In the past inquests were held on many other things besides treasure trove and dead bodies.
