FOREIGNERS IN DANGER. United floss Association— By Electrlo Telegraph—Copyright SHANGHAI, July 31. Following the evacuation, looting and burning of Changsha, on Monday, the Communist armies repeated their actions at Nanchang and Nankang. and are now advancing on Kuikiang, necessitating the evacuation of all foreigners at Killing, a summer mountain resort, by the express orders of the British authorities. Two British destroyers were sent to Kiukiang. The State Department at Washington has informed the Nankin Government that in the event of American lives and property being lost, America reserves all rights in the matter. Situation on Yangtze The situation on the Yangtze is becoming graver, news indicating that the Communists are advancing towards the southern bank in the vicinity of Kf.ukiang, consequently imperilling the Kuling foreign holiday resort. En route some 400 holiday makers have been advised immediately to evacuate. The British destroyers Somme and Sirdar have been hurriedly ordered from Wei-Hai-Wei to Nankin to relieve the other gunboats destined for upriver ports. The position Is pregnant with tragic possibilities.
REDS ACTIVE IN AUSTRALIA. POLICE FRUSTRATE PLANS. United Press Association— By Electrle Telegraph—Copyright (Received August 1, 9.30 pm) SYDNEY, August 1. The Communists had planned a demonstration for the centre of the city to-day, commemorating the Red International day, but the police and detectives gathered twenty into a patrol van, at the precise moment the demonstration was about to commence. It was one of the swiftest and most effective raids on record. There was a serious Communist disturbance in front of Treasury Buildings in Adelaide, to-day. The police charged with batons, but the Communists fought the police with pieces of wood. A number of Communists were injured, and two were arrested.
