LEAGUE FOOTBALL,

NEW ZEALAND TEAM’S DEFEAT. United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Cop> right (Received July 27, 5.5 p.m.) BRISBANE, July 27. The New Zealand League team reached the low mark in to-day’s match against Queensland, and were trounced by 31 points to 6. Only in the opening stages of the game did the visitors appear to have a chance of victory, when they attacked with vigour, and several times stormed Queensland's line. Their tactics, however, did not occasion alarm among the Qeenslanders. At half-time, through the fine kicking by Eckhoff, the scores were close. Queensland 8 New Zealand 6 Three goals were kicked by Eckhoff in the second half. The Queenslanders overwhelmed their opponents, and scored almost at will. The New Zealanders were unable to cope with the delightfully free passing and scintillating unorthodox movements. They made a final effort, however, towards the end of the game, but found the defence too strong for them. The New Zealanders individually tackled effectively, but were too frequently found out of position. The best backs were Brisbane, Abbott and Dodds, and best forwards, Eckhoff, Griffiths and Stephenson. The final scores were: Queensland 31 New Zealand 6
