Miss Ruby Ford has returned from a short visit to Oamaru. Mr and Mrs A. Nichols, Ashburton, and Miss Janet Studholme, Waimate, were visitors to Timaru for the races. Miss Fox and Miss Helen Fox. Waiiti Road, returned yesterday from a short visit to Christchurch. Mrs Roberts, who has been staying with Mrs C. J. LeCren, Grey Road, has returned to Ashburton. Mr and Mrs Derek Gould. Christchurch. were visitors to Timaru for the Hunt Races on Saturday. Mrs G. Morrison, Branscombe Street, has returned from* a visit to Christchurch. Miss Howell. Geraldine, who has been staying with Mrs R. F. Hill, Mere Mere Street, has left to stay with Mrs R. Ensor, Rangiora. Mr and Mrs R. R. Beauchamp, Tekapo, who are the guests of Mrs William Raymond, Nile Street, will return home to-day. Miss Alice Pascoe, Christhurch, who is the guest of Mrs W. H. Hargreaves, Kakahu, will leave to-day to stay with Miss June Batchelor, Dunedin. Mr and Mrs Percy Burbury, Waiau, North Canterbury, who have been on a trip to Australia, were guests at the Grosvenor last week on their way home. Mr W. P. D. Barker. Miss Ruth Barker and Mr T. Barker, who stayed at The Grand for the Hunt races, returned to Rocky Ridges, Geraldine, yesterday.

The novelty of a masked cabaret attracted a large number of people to the Broadway Cabaret on Saturday night. The pretty dance room was decorated in shades of cherry olour, streamers, lamp-shades, cushions and hangings all being carried out in this bright shade. A special cabaret turn, of tap dancing w ; as given by Miss May Donaldson, who wore an attractive frock in shades of pale pink, the plain bodice being of panne velvet and the buffant skirt of pale pink tulle being embroidered in pink rose-buds. Exhibition dances by Mr F. Edney, and novelty dances with streamers, squeakers and snowballs all added to the fun. Unwin, K. de Castro, N. Seay. FROCKING AT THE RACES. Excellent weather favoured the Hunt Club steeplechase meeting at Washdyke on Saturday. Many hunting enthusiasts were present from different parts of the countryside, and all enjoyed to the full the glorious sunshine. Generally speaking, it was the day of the tailored suit and ensemble, or coats in many bright weaves and flecks.
