GERALDINE.

CHANGE IN WEATHER. Following an almost perfect morning that gave promise of a glorious halfholiday in Geraldine, a southerly buster sprang up shortly after one o'clock yesterday, bringing with it clouds of dust. Heavy rain followed, and hail was experienced in many parts of the district. Last evening the showers ceased, but conditions were cold and overcast. Hockey matches were i abandoned owing to the inclement weather. SCHOOL GAMES. In unfavourable weather, and on a heavy ground, the annual Rugby match between teams from the Geraldine District High School and the Fairlie District High School was played yesterday afternoon on the Oval, and resulted in a win for the home side bysix points to three. The match attracted a good number of spectators, but play was of a straggly nature owing to the state of the ground. For Geraldine, O. Hatton and V. Cross scored in the first half, and the home team held a lead of 6-0 at the interval. Fairlie scored a try in the second half, and the game ended in Geraldine’s favour, 6-3. BASKETBALL. A basketball match between teams representing Fairlie and the Geraldine ex-girls, resulted in a win for the home side by three points to two. FIRE BRIGADE RIFLES. At the weekly shoot of the Geraldine Fire Brigade Rifles, the following were the best scores:—S. Pocock 73, A. Bryant 75, W. Angland 74, T. Watson 74. G. Toomy 72, E. Toomy 63. B. Clarkson 65, R. Helem 72, A. Knight 78. J. Buckley 71. F. Morgan 78 and K. Smith 75. T. Watson and F. Morgan tied with handicaps, and in the shoot off. T. Watson won Mr J. Mcllroy’s trophy. THE OPTICAL SPECIALIST. The Optical Specialist of John R. Procter’s, Ltd. (New Zealand’s leading opticians), Christchurch, will be visiting Teinuka on Saturday, August 9th. and may be consulted on all defects of eyesight (Glasses) at the United Friendly Societies’ Dispensary between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Appointments may now be made by ringing the United Friendly Societies' Dispensary.
