GENERAL NEWS. A start was made yesterday morning with repairs to the Temuka traffic bridge, which was severely damaged by flood waters about twelve months ago. Pile-driving was carried out yesterday, and to make this work easier, the river has been diverted into the southern channel. Given favourable weather it is expected the repairs will be completed in a few weeks. Property on the southern bank of the mouth of the Opihi river is at present seriously menaced by water when the tide is high, because the mouth of the river is again blocked, thus causing the water to bank up. BIBLE CLASS SALE OF WORK. With the building of their new hall in Railway Terrace, the Temuka Presbyterian Bible Classes became possessed of splendid rooms in which to receive instructions. The building has not been officially declared open, but the classes have aimed at having some funds in hand, for purposes of furnishing, when the opening takes place. Wtih this end in view, members had, for some weeks, been devoting a good deal of time in the preparation and collection of articles for a sale of work. Yesterday saw the culmination of their efforts, when the sale was opened in the Sunday School Hall and proved a success in every way. The collection of articles had bre lght in a large supply of useful goods, and the secretary (Miss H. Goodman) had all arrangements well In hand. The opening ceremony was performed by the Rev. H. R. Fell, who briefly congratulated members on their initiative, and hoped the sale would have a successful issue. In charge of stalls, at each of which, were class members, were the following: Work stall, Mrs G. A. Davey and Nurse McLurg; sweet stall, Miss N. Childes, Miss Lorna Lowrie; jumble stall, Miss N. Parkes: flower patch, Miss W. Duncan, Miss N. Forrester; cake stall, Miss I. Meek, Miss H. Goodman; produce stall, Mr G. A. Davey and Bible Class boys; afternoon tea, Mrs H. R. Fell and Miss E. Davey. The sale was concluded in the evening, after which an enjoyable concert was given.
