LONDON NAVAL TREATY.
Decision Of U.S. Senate. RATIFIED BY BIG MAJORITY. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright WASHINGTON, July 21. The Senate on Monday ratified the London Naval Treaty. The Senate previously adopted the Norris reservation, stipulating that no approval should be given by ratification to any secret agreement or understanding which may exist in relation to the Pact. A reservation by Senator Johnson to permit the United States to construct either eight or six-inch cruisers, regardless of the limitations in the Treaty, was rejected by 57 to 8. The ratification of the Treaty vote was 58 to 9. A two-thirds vote was necessary. The vote came suddenly, after more than a dozen reservations by opponents had been rejected heavily. Commander Kenworthy, in committee on the Naval estimates, moved a reduction, but the amendment was defeated by 239 votes to 27.
