THRILLING CAR RACING.

Motor Contest In Dublin

TERRIFIC SPEED ATTAINED. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright LONDON. July 20. Heavy showers added to the dangers of the Senior Irish Grand Prix, covering 300 miles, at Phoenix Park. Torrential downpours covered the wind-screens, making conditions most difficult, and responsible for many hair-raising skids. One car, going at a terrific speed, skidded so severely that it turned round four times, and then, when everyone breathlessly awaited disaster, the car continued on in the race. To half-way, there was a duel between the German Carracciola, driving a Mercedes car, and Captain Birdkin, in a Bentley. Eventually the German won the trophy, doing an average speed of 85.88 miles per hour. An Italian, Campri, driving an Alfa Romeo, was second. Earl Howe,, in a Mercedes, was third, and Birdkin fourth.
