GERALDINE.
METHODIST CHURCH. The quarterly meeting of the Geral- _ , [ine Methodist Church was held on ruesday. the Rev. J. Southern presidng over an attendance of sixteen nembers. The reports on various activities of he church showed there was a small ncrease in membership, and in Sunday School scholars. The financial statement showed a jalance in hand on the quarter's workng. Arrangements were made for the foreign Mission sendees during the juarter. The meeting extended a inanimous invitation to Rev. J. Southern to remain on the circuit for a 4th .-ear. The invitation was accepted subject to Conference approval. SATURDAY'S FOOTBALL. Two Geraldine football teams met with defeat on Saturday afternoon, and one won by default. The third grade team were defeated by Timaru High School by six points to nil, a try and a penalty kick, after an exciting contest. The fifth grade team met with a 6 —5 point defeat at the hands of Temuka. after an exciting battle for honours. At half time Temuka held the lead by 3—o. and scored a second try before V. Stonyer got across to score for Geraldine in the latter portion of the game. S. Callanan was successful with a nice kick. The fourth grade team won from Celtic by default. A EUCHRE PARTY. A euchre party was held by the Waihi Rebekah Lodge on Friday night, when there was a good attendance at the Oddfellows Hall. Competition prizes were won as follows: -Men: Mr G. Rowe, first: Mr E. Lewis, consolation: ladies. Mrs B. Hayes, first; Mrs J. Barrett, consolation. FINE WEATHER AGAIN. Following showery weather in the early hours of Saturday morning, bright sunshine was experienced at Geraldine on Saturday afternoon. Many Rugby enthusiasts, however, remained indoors, and followed with interest the broadcast of the Auckland match. GENERAL NEWS. Two shops in Geraldine that had been closed for a period have reopened for business. The flag was flown at half-mast on the Geraldine Post Office on Saturday as a mark of respect to the late Sir Robert Stout. The Gapes Valley School will hold a dance on July 24. Mr J. Kennedy, chairman of the South Canterbury Power Board, returned from Wellington yesterday. Victoria Lodge have booked August 7th for their annual ball. The Orari Readers will stage three plays at Orari on July 29th. The Orari Tennis Clull dance is set down for July 24th. GOLF. On Saturday a bogey competition for I the Feilden trophies was played on the i Geraldine links. The best cards were as follow r s:—D. Macdonald v. P. G. Withers 2 down; C. J. Kerr. jun. v. G. Feilden 3 down; A. J. Burows v. Captain Kerr 4 down; E. R. Beckett V. H. Bennett 6 down.
