White, Higinbottom, Green, McCully, Leathern (2), Topham, Cranford. Horgan, Kelland (2). Goodson, McKenzie. Norton, Patrick, Harbrow, Bray, Ward. METHODIST BIBLE CLASSES. A large number of young people attended the monthly social in connection with the winter evenings arranged by the Methodist Bible Classes, on Tuesday evening in the Denmark Street schoolroom. Visitors were present from the Presbyterian Classes, and also from Waimataitai. Mr Allan Dale presided. Musical items j were contributed by Miss M. Ellis and | Miss B. Reid, and a recitation by Mrs | Smith. Competitions were won by Miss Molly Taylor and Mr Gordon Taylor. All present" appeared to have an enjoyable time. LADIES’ GOLF. C. grade players’ scores will count for the first qualifying round of the championship. BAND OF HOPE. I The fortnightly meeting of the Temuka Band of Hope was held in the Methodist schoolroom. There was a large attendance of both children and adults. The meeting commenced with song and prayer. The leader told the children some temperance stories, and gave them some good advice. A good programme, given by the children, was well attended. It was stated that the membership of the Golden Rule Brigade was growing. The following was the programme:— Recitation, 'Grace Fell; piano duet, Muriel Shepherd and Joan Fell; solo, Miss B. Reid; recitation, Donald Galbraith; piano solo, Joyce Kirkpatrick; recitation, Dolly Galbraith; piano solo, Kathleen Benbow. Gramophone records were played.

HILTON WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. The first meeting of the newlyformed Hilton Women’s Institute was held in the hall on Thursday last. Mrs G. Fletcher (president) presided over an attendance of about 25. After the necessary business had been concluded and a welcome extended to new members, the president introduced Mrs H. A. Brenton, of Orari, who gave a demonstration of papier-mache work, which was watched with interest. Mrs Brenton was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. An exhibition of household treasures brought by members included old china, glass, brassware, a christening robe, a silk shawl, coral, and one piece of the first Atlantic cable laid between England and America. The following new members were enrolled:—Mrs M. Collins, Mrs T. Leary, Mrs T. Bruce, Mrs Slater, Miss M. Slater, Miss' B. Fierce, Miss E. Maxwell, and Miss M. Collins. It was decided to have a competition for the best article made of papiermache at the next meeting. Afternoon tea, for which the members of the Committee were hostesses, was handed round, and the meeting concluded with the singing of the National Anthem. GENERAL NEWS. Nine degrees of frost were registered in Temuka yesterday morning. A very cold, dull day followed. Motor registrations are coming in very slowly at the Post Office. There were only four registrations last week, out of about 150 still to be registered.
