French Troops Depart. REJOICING IN GERMANY. United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, July 1. The Berlin correspondent of “The Times,” says though joybells are ringing throughout Germany over the liberation of the Rhineland, there is a strong undercurrent of anxiety noticeable concerning the economic future of the evacuated districts. Garrison towns, such as Mainz and Coblenz will be hard hit by the disappearance of the Armies of occupation, w'hich importantly contributed to their prosperity. To-night’s celebrations at Mainz included illumination of the banks and bridges of the Rhine, and bonfires on the surrounding hills. Massed choirs and bands joined in thanksgiving hymns, and patriotic songs. Notable tributes were paid to Dr. Stresemann as the chief author of liberation, which he did not live to see. A special session of the Reichstag was devoted to thanksgiving speeches. HOPES FOR BRIGHTER DAYS. MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright BERLIN, July 1. President Hindenberg segt a message to the German people, emphasising that their patience, patriotism and sacrifice had regained their freedom for the territory occupied by foreign troops since the unhappy ending of the war. “Let us,” he says, “unite after years of affliction, and by peaceful paths lead our beloved Fatherland to better and brighter days.”
