The Railway Department advertises a relief special train leaving Timaru at 5 a.m. on Saturday, for Christchurch, in connection with the second Test on Saturday, July 5: A general meeting of the Timaru High School Old Oirls' Association will be held in the Y.W.C.A. rooms on Monday night. Everything for absolute sale A deputation of master carriers to the Minister of Railways (the Hon. W. A. Veitch) protested against interference with their business by the Railway Department as regards both Customhouse work and general carrying. The deputation stated that there was a rumour that the Railway Department intended to put nine lorries on the road in competition with the carriers. The Minister said the Government realised the need for co-operation among all forms of transport and denied that the department was putting lorries on the road. He stated, however, that the Government might deem it necessary to enter into active competition with private transport concerns which were competing unfairly with the railways. The morning train for Oamaru leaves Timaru on Saturday at 7.40, and the evening train from Oamaru for Timaru leaves at 5.0 p.m. Both these trains will stop opposite the Oamaru racecourse.
