Regret at the serious illness of Sir Joseph Ward was expressed by the chairman of the Mackenzie County Council (Mr C. J. Talbot), at yesterday’s meeting, and it was decided that a letter of sympathy be forwarded to the ex-Prime Minister. Mr Talbot stated that Sir Joseph had completed forty years of valuable service to the Dominion and his record was a very fine one. which could be appreciated by persons of different political opinions. At the same time, said the chairman, the Council should congratulate the Hon. G. W. Forbes on his elevation to the high office of Prime Minister. Mr Forbes was a Canterbury farmer and a man who had practically graduated from “log cabin to White House.” It was agreed that a congratulatory letter be sent to the new Prime Minister.
