WINCHESTER
BENEFIT CONCERT. On Friday evening a concert organised by Mrs W. J. Moore, for the benefit of St. John's Sunday School prize fund wa<3 held in St. John’s Schoolroom. There was a good attendance. Mr L. H. Orbell officiated as Chairman. The junior members of St. Peter’s i.Temuka) Sunday School gave a play entitled “The Doll’s House Party,” and the way the little ones acted their parts was a credit to them, and also to Mrs G. Nelham Watson and Mrs F. W. Salmon, who coached the children. The parts were taken by: Mistress Doll. May Berry; Cook Doll. Elsie Ackroyd; Housemaid Doll, Dorothy Laurenoon: Nurse Doll. Mona Ives; Japanese Doll. Betty Heap: Nigger Doll.. Jessie Hutchinson; Baby Dolls, Greta Clinch. Phillis Waters, Rita Ackroyd: Old Lady Dolls, Joan Brisby. Betty Berry; guests, Kathleen Benbow, Priscilla Green. Loma and Linda Pye. Special mention must be made of the items given by Noeline Findlay. This young performer was given a good reception by the audience for the clever rendering of items which consisted of a pianoforte solo, sailor’s hornpipe, Irish jig, Highland fling and a skipping dance. The other performers also received well-merited applause. The programme opened with a pianoforte duet by Miss Molly White and Miss Jean Davey. which was followed by the play. “The Doll s House Party.” The first part of the programme was concluded by a pianoforte solo by Miss Noeline Findlay. Misses B. and M. Opie opened the second part of the programme with a pianoforte duet, followed by sailor’s hornpipe; Miss Noeline Findlay; song. Rev. G. Nelham Watson, who also sang again later in the programme; song. Mrs C. Stanley, with violin obligato played by ! Mrs Wild; Irish jig, Noeline Findlay; monologue, Mr F. W. Salmon; song, Miss Ives; violin solo, Mrs Wild; song, Mr F. W. Salmon; skipping dance, Noeline Findlay. The accompaniments were played by Mrs F. W. Salmon and Miss Mabel Sinclair. Mr L. H. Orbell thanked the public for their attendance, and said that the concert had become an annual function for raising money for the prizes i of the Sunday School children. He also j returned thanks to Mrs G. N. Watson j and Mrs Salmon for training the | children, also to Mrs Stanley, Rev. Mr Watson, Mr Salmon and Mr A. Findlay for motoring the performers from Temuka. He further thanked Mrs W. J. Moore for organising the concert.
DANCE. On Wednesday evening. Mr and Mrs L. H. Orbell. Winchester, entertained a number of young people at a dance at their home in honour of their son, Mr G. B. Orbell.
