Women worked beside men, wheeling barrows and piling up gravel against the barricades in an effort to save from the tide the bungalow village of Winchelson, on the beach near the famous thirteenth century village. The sea has burst the barrier of shingle protecting the homes and flooded a large area. It is feared that when the tide is at the highest to-morrow, the houses may be inundated, and the broad pastures covered.
