Newspaper Takes Poll. . HOW THE MILLIONS VOTED. (United Press Association—-By Bleotrls Telegraph—popyrlyht.) Received April 25, 6.55 p.m. NEW YORK, April 22. The poll taken on the prohibition issue by the newspaper "The Literary Digest,” in which 3,705,742 ballots were cast, resulted: For enforcement .. .. 1,902,745 For modification .. .. 1,105,683 For repeal 1,507,314 DEMAND FOR REFERENDUM. AMERICAN CITIZENS SHOULD DECIDE. (United Press Association—By filectrls Telegraph.—Copyright., WASHINGTON, April 23. Mr Pierre Dupont, one of America's most noted industrialists and closely identified with those in association against the Prohibition amendment, told the House Judiciary Committeee that a younger generation had grown up since Prohibition was established, and now comprised a third of the nation’s voters. These young people should be allowed to pass judgment on the Eighteenth Amendment. “By what Republican doctrine,” he asked, "can these men and women be deprived of a vote on a question which is now more active than on the day it was supposed to be settled forever?”
