AUCKLAND WINS SHIELD. AUCKLAND, April 23Canterbury and Auckland shared honours in tw r o finals in the tennis section of the Universities tournament, which were decided to-day. The ladies’ singles championship, v/hich was held by Auckland, was won bv Canterbury, by Miss Sherris, ■who defeated Miss R. Taylor (Auckland) 6-1. 6-jl. In the combined doubles. Miss N. Whitelaw and A. H. McDonald (Auckland) defeated Miss Sherris and Beatson (Canterbury), and thereby retained the title for Auckland, and maintained Auckland's big lead in the competition for the tennis challenge cup, as only Auckland players are left to contest the remaining tennis finals on Saturday. The points thus gained in tennis gives Auckland University the tournament shield. Results are:— Ladies’ singles final: Miss Sherris (Canterbury) beat Miss R. Taylor (Auckland), 6-1, 6-1. Combined doubles fiinal: Miss N. Whitelaw and A. H. McDonald (Auckland) beat Miss Sherris and P. Beatson (Canterbury) 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.
