Mr and Mrs Drew, South Street, who j have been spending some time in Hanmer, will motor home on Friday. Mr and Mrs C. F. W. Hamilton, ' Irishman’s Creek, will leave Vancouver at the end of the month on their return to New Zealand. Mr and Mrs E. Cartwright, "Ocean View,” Levels, who have been spending some weeks at are expected home to-morrow. Mr and Mrs Colin Douglas, Waimate, who have been on a visit to Hawke’s Bay, will arrive in Christchurch this week. Miss Ella Orbell, Christchurch, who has been staying with Mrs N. M. Orbell, Totara Valley, returned home on Monday. Miss Mac Lean, Wellington, first lady principal of the Girls' High School, will arrive on Thursday to stay at the Grand for the High School Jubilee celebrations. Miss Betty Webb. Christchurch, who Is staying with Mrs A. E. Kerr, Belmont, Cave, will arrive to-day to stay with Mrs J. P. Newman, Clovelly, Nelson Terrace. Colonel and the Hon. Mrs Meldon, England, who have been visiting Christchurch, and the West Coast, have left for Rotorua, and will leave next week by the Rangitikei on their return journey to England. Mr and Mrs J. C. Templer, Waimate, will arrive to-morrow to stay with Miss Wright, Wai-iti Road, on their way to Christchurch for the Easter holidays. Mrs Templer will be a competitor at the golf tournament to be played at the Shirley links, Christchurch, next week.

A Hanover-square dressmaker says that he has had the surprise of his life this autumn. It is the elderly women who still insist on having short skirts, and the young girls who clamour for those that are touching the floor. “A skirt can’t be too long to please a girl,” he added. Miss Edith Onians, secretary of the Melbourne Newsboys’ Society, who recently returned from an extended tour of the U.S. and Europe, told an interviewer that the U.S.A. has without doubt the finest child-guidance clinics in the world. “The American people," she said, “treat the young delinquent as such, not as a criminal.
