MISS MEGAN LLOYD GEORGE

AN M.P. The name of “Lloyd George" has been familiar to the House of Commons for forty years, but I hear that when the Speaker prefixed it with “Miss - ' recently, he caused quite a sensation, says an overseas writer. He was merely calling Miss Megan Lloyd George to put one question out of 129 which stood in various members’ names on the order-paper. But it was the first time the House had heard her name mentioned, although she has now been M.P. for Anglesey since May. M.P.’s reacted as they always do to something new—they said “Hear, hear” and laughed. Mr Baldwin laughed, and so did her brother Gwilym. Miss Lloyd George generally wears green, in which she looks very Welsh—one might say elfin —but for this great occasion she wore a claret-coloured frock and clasped a locket suspended from a strong chain. She may make a speech now that she has broken the ice, but she was embarrassed by the attentions she received, and retired behind Mr “Jimmy” de Rothschild’s hat, which is large enough to conceal her slight head and shoulders.
