WAIMATE.

AMATEUR ATHLETICS. A meeting of the Waimate Amateur Athletic Club was held on Thursday night. Present. —Mr L. Le P. Ensor (president), Messrs S. I. Fitch. T. E. Parry, A. Dobbs and L. J. Collins. The chairman reported that arrangements were well in hand for the meeting on Easter Saturday and that the entries had exceeded expectations. The following sub-committees were appointed:— Ground Committee:—Messrs Ensor. Dobbs and McDonald. Judiciary Committee. —Messrs Ensor. Pitch. Collins, McLauchlan and G. L. Austin. Programme Committee.— Messrs Fitch,” Dobbs and Collins. The president reported that arrangements had been completed for the billeting of visiting competitors. A letter was received from Mr G. L Austin, secretary of the Canterbury Centre Christchurch, advising that he had been appointed supervisor for the meeting. Kennett and Co. Christchurch, wrote offering to donate a trophy valued at £1 10s 6d for competition at the j meeting.—A vote of thanks was passed j to the donors. I BOWLING. The following players will represent the Waimate Club at the Easter bowling tournament of the Oamaru Centre: J. L. Sage (s), J. B. Robinson, A. Price. J. Betten. J. J. Healey (s), G. W. Collett, C. J. Jackson, T. E. Parry. C. Manchester (s). V. A. Bendall, F. Akhurst, N. L. Knell. Play has concluded for the season m Waimate. as the green has to undergo re-conditioning operations in preparation for next season. CANCER CAMPAIGN. A meeting of the Waimate branch of the British Empire Cancer Campaign Society was held on Wednesday evening. The Mayor (Mr Geo. Dash) presided, and seven members were elected to the Committee. The announcement was made that ten new members of the Society had been secured. Reports from Timaru stated that a campaign of public meetings was planned, to commence immediately after the Easter Holidays and that .a special week would be set apart for a drive to obtain donations. A lengthy discussion took place regarding the appointment of a secretary, and it was decided that two members of the Committee wait upon an experienced lady resident with a view to securing her services for the position. It was decided that a public meeting be called, and it was agreed to invite i Sir Lindo Ferguson to give a lecture, in company with other speakers. PERSONAL. Mr and Mrs T. Fagan. Opie Street, who have been spending a three months holiday in the North Island, returned to Waimate yesterday.
