Mrs Brett Shand. Selwyn Street, left yesterday on a visit to Dunedin. Miss Jean Campbel, Wai-iti Road, will leave to-day on a short visit to Mrs A. E. Kerr Belmont, Cave.
Miss Hester Wigley, Highfield, will return to-day from a visit to Miss Lysaght, Geraldine. The Misses Ransome, Hampton House, LeCren’s Terrace, have returned from Tekapo. Mrs C. A. Paterson. Sefton Street, *vho is the guest of Miss June Batchelor. Dunedin, is expected home to-day. Mrs F. A. Raymond, Beverley Road, who is on a visit to Christchurch, is expected home to-morrow. Mrs A. Mainwaring. Geraldine, is spending the winter months at the Grand.
Mr and Mrs J. W. Fair. Douglas Street ,who are on a visit to Christchurch. will return home to-day. Mrs Hubert Powell. Christchurcn, who was the guest of Miss Amy NevillSmith. Silver Birches, Sophia Street, motored home at the beginning of the week.
Miss Stone-Wigg, England, '•nd Miss R. Stone-Wigg, Wellington, who are the guest of Mrs Stone-Wigg. Winchester, will leave to day for the North Island.
Dr Scobie Gilmer, the elder son of Dr and Mrs Hamilton Gilmer, of Wellington. is to be married to Miss Rewa Weston, daughter of Captain and Mrs Weston, and a niece of the Hon. Shailer Weston, M.L.C., early in May. The marriage will be celebrated in the Chapel Royal (London) and a reception will take place afterwards. The annual meeting of the Otipua Women’s Institute was held in the hall on Wednesday afternoon. Despite wet weather, there was a gcod attendance. It was decided to form an Institute Library, each member to contribute two books. Miss M. Smith was elected librarian. The total membership for the past year was reported to be forty-two members, and the meetings had been very well attended. Lectures had been given throughout the year, and various demonstrations in handcraft had been held. The election of the incoming committee (18 nominations were received) resulted as follows:—Miss D. Withell was unanimously re-elected president; committee, Mesdames A. Jackson, H. Caldwell, B. Evans, Lunham, Simmonas, Purvis, Misses E. Jackson, D. Newbegin and I. Watson. At the initial meeting of the newlyformed committee. Mrs A. Jackson was appointed vice-president, Miss D. Newbegin secretary, and Miss I. Watson treasurer.
Two new members were elected;— Miss A. Tate and Mrs Shanks.
